How to Light Stairs

800 533 Noon Lighting

Individual stair lights can be recessed into the stair tread above, lighting the steps separately and throwing light across the step or floor. This is a useful technique for emphasising a change of levels within a space.

Floor wash lights are recessed into the wall next to the stairs and project the light outwards in effect ‘washing’ the stairs with light. This form of lighting provides illumination on each stair or choose fittings with a wider wash to be used on every few stairs.

For narrow stairs, consider the use of soft up lights on every few stairs to throw light vertically up against the walls, creating a dramatic statement and can maximise a narrow space.

Don’t forget to light your landing, this will create focus at the top of the stairs.
