The hallway may often be overlooked when planning lighting, however a little effort to get the lighting right here creates both a warm welcome and a functional passageway!
Consider creating an entrance using a signature piece, shop around for the right chandeliers or pendants and use to create a wow welcome.
Wall lights, are ideal for hallways as they create balance and offer the optimum amount of light. Whilst wall lights are available in many styles and finishes, up light style wall lights are ideal for hallways, as these will cast light upwards, opening up narrow spaces – alternatively, dependent on the desired effect, go for a wall light that both up lights and downlights, opening up the space even more and balancing the overall look.
Use accent lighting to bring to life any artwork and/or features within the hallway. For long hallways you may also consider track lights with spots that are directed at features and offer overhead lighting. Think about lighting control, consider options like hallway lighting on a timed sensor, and/or dimmers.
Low level lighting is truly at home in hallways (and on stairways), use up lights or side lights to create a beautiful non-intrusive low-level glow. A nice desk lamp or two can work well on a hallway table, and recessed lighting also works well in hallways…
Just remember get it right, and don’t over light!
